Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Hollender

Elisabeth Hollender ist Professorin für Judaistik am Seminar für Judaistik der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt

Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen in der jüdischen Kultur- und Religionsgeschichte des Mittelalters, insbesondere im Bereich der ashkenasischen Liturgie und ihrer Kommentare und der Handschriftenforschung. Sie ist sehr an regionalen Unterschieden im ashkenasischen Judentum interessiert und der Kultur jenseits der geistigen Elite. Derzeit bereitet sie eine Edition der beschriebenen Schieferfragmente des 14. Jh. aus dem jüdischen Viertel von Köln vor.


Elisabeth Hollender war 2018-2023 Präsidentin der European Association for Jewish Studies (EAJS) und hat in dieser Funktion 2023 den 12. EAJS Kongress Branching Out: Diversity of Jewish Studies in Frankfurt verantwortet.


Elisabeth Hollender unterrichtet im BA und MA Judaistik und im Nebenfach Jüdische Geschichte und Kultur die Einführung in die Judaistik sowie Veranstaltungen zum Judentum des Mittelalters, regelmäßig auch verbunden mit der Lektüre hebräischer Originalquellen.
